ASC-ASCF Rescue
The right rescued cocker can be wonderful addition to any family. All puppies are irresistible, but when you adopt an older dog you already know what he will be like when he grows up. Most likely the dog will be housetrained, all the puppy shots are behind him, that difficult adolescent stage has passed and your new companion may already know some basic obedience commands.

Cockers come into rescue for a variety of reasons and most of the time through no fault of their own. Some are voluntary surrenders due to changing circumstances in their owner’s lives such as illness, death, divorce, new baby, new home, and believe it or not, new furniture! Some are confiscated from deplorable situations such as inhumane puppy mills and still others have been lost or abandoned.

ASCF Affiliated Rescue Groups carefully screen the Cockers under their care for health and temperament before offering them for adoption. All placements are current on their vaccinations and have been heartworm tested, spayed or neutered.

If you can find room in your heart and home for an older cocker, you will be awarded by the ever-wagging tail of a companion who will be forever grateful to you for giving him a second chance at happiness.

ASC Nominee Sharon Elliott and Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas win the Pedigree® Breed Rescue of the Year

PEDIGREE® is proud to honor Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas with the “Breed Rescue of the Year” award for its efforts to rescue and better the lives of Cocker Spaniels.

In the early 1990's, Cocker Spaniel enthusiast Sharon Elliott saw a need to assist the many homeless Cocker Spaniels abandoned at local animal shelters. Since that time, joined by an army of tireless volunteers, she worked night and day to rescue and rehabilitate the hundreds of Cocker Spaniels in need. Eight Board of Directors, whose locations span from Galveston Island to Anchorage, Alaska, oversee Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas, Inc., a 501-C3 organization. With the help of over 40 enthusiastic volunteers, the organization has successfully found homes for over 4000 vivacious dogs over the past 15 years.

Each year, PEDIGREE® Brand partners with the Westminster Kennel Club to execute an awards program that recognizes individuals, organizations and shelter/rescue groups that lend a hand to help homeless dogs in their area. The awards, scheduled to be handed out on February 13, 2010, will be given to those who work tirelessly to raise funds for dog-related causes.

Congratulations Sharon and CSRET-Houston!
