AngelANGEL AND SADIE

SECOND CHANCES

Rescuers across the country provide a service that does not go unnoticed by the families that are lucky enough to blessed by the love of a rescued cocker. Angel was in need of expensive surgery which was paid for, in part by the ASC's donation of all the Cocker Cuties Calendars the CockerAngels Rescue Group could sell. The Homer family was saddened by the loss of Sadie, their rescued cocker, and are looking forward to the day when they will be able to offer another cocker a second chance at happiness.

Angel's Story

Dear Becki,

We would like you to meet our little rescued "Angel". We started a small group called CockerAngels. After just a few shorts weeks one of our members received a phone call from her local Vets office about a little blind cocker. This little girl they found wandering around in the parking lot, no leash, not tied, just listening for a familiar sound. From the looks of her, she had been on her own for several days. She was severely matted and filled with cockle burrows all over her and into her pads. The techs at the Vet's office took her in and cleaned her up and discovered this girl was so very sweet. So they made a phone call to Dianne and asked if she knew anyone that would take her. Dianne posted on our group and we decided as a group to take her. I drove from PA to TN to get her. I took her to my Vet and discovered not only did she have cataracts but glaucoma as well. We started doing lots of fundraising in case Angel was a candidate for surgery and to help with her medical costs.

We took her into rescue but did not have a clue how we were going to pay for her medical bills. AngelWell shortly after we got her ASC e-mailed and said they had some ASC Calendars they were willing to donate to rescue if we wanted them. This was truly an answer to our prayers. Between Joan at CockerPals and CockerAngels we sold as many calendars as we could. We took Angel to an Ophthalmologist in Pittsburgh, PA to see if anything could be done to restore Angel's sight. After exam they felt there was not much to do except to do a Chemical Ablation to reduce the pressure in her eyes.

Well while we were preparing to have her surgery done, Joan found a home for her in PA. Barb agreed to take Angel and when she saw her picture she melted. It was an instant love and bond between the two of them. Angel has had her successful surgery and is recovering at home with her forever Mom. Barb has taught her some commands and has also bought her a ramp so Angel can have some independence getting in and out of bed.

This story was an inspiration to all of us. We stepped out in faith to take this little girl with all her medical problems. We had no idea where the money was coming from and if she would ever be adopted. God provided us with the funding through the ASC calendars and also a very loving home for a sweet, sweet Angel.

This was truly a fairy tale ending for us in rescue and thank you ASC for all your help.

Sadie's Story

Dear Becki,

We adopted a beautiful cocker (most likely through your organization) at the PetSmart at the Perimeter Mall in Sandy Springs. We got her September, 1996. When we first took her into our home, she was nervous. She was not sure of where she was going to be, if it was going to be permanent, or if she would be abused as she had been in the past. She also had very severe ear problems, that had probably been let go for quite awhile. Well, we loved Sadie from the moment we first saw her. It was wonderful to have her develop into a confident, healthy and beautiful dog. Matter of fact, she soon became more than confident and felt that she ran our family!!!! We provided her a loving home and she was a wonderful part of our lives. She passed away in September, 2003. We have all been very sad, but feel blessed for the time that we had Sadie. We are now at the point of thinking it is time for us to go looking for a new doggie for our home. Our goal is to look for another rescue Cocker. We are no longer in Georgia. We are now in Minnesota (ugh) and will be moving to California in a month. I have already been looking up the rescue groups in CA and have found there is one in a town nearby to where we are moving.

I just wanted to say thank you for the work that you do and to let you know that you are appreciated.

Elise & Gary Homer
